hey guys, i'm new here. i think a group like this is awesome. to foster and encourage the creative people in florida is really cool. what can i do to participate? i'm a little confused by the layout of the site. give me some feedback on what to do here. when in a new country they say to do as the natives do, but this country (florida creatives) is soooo different and new to me i don't know where to start.
i live in lakeland and maybe eventually i could start up a lakeland chapter. me and some friends have a central florida art group. check us out, cause we are trying to do what you guys are doing - helping the art community grow.
anyone out there?
Hi Smeets!
Sorry about not replying sooner. I promoted this discussion to the home page to see if somone else wanted to reply.
As for myself, I have been insanely bogged down with work. Normally, I would have replied right away.
I would love to see a Lakeland chapter happen.
First, I recommend you create a Lakeland group:
http://floridacreatives.com/wiki/help has an article called "Creating New Groups". This is a Wiki, so if you notice something missing, please add it to the page. All registered users can edit.
There are also regional wikis for most major cities in Florida under the Florida wiki. If you don't notice Lakeland, go ahead and add it. You'll see a link on the Florida Wiki called "Add Child Page".
http://floridacreatives.com/wiki/florida
We've been using the regional wiki pages to list things like Wi-Fi spots, user groups, annual events, useful resources, websites, hyperlocal blogs, businesses by FLCreatives Members and lots more. You can add child pages under your new Lakeland section as well to help keep things organized. Our website will organize everything with friendly URLs like http://floridacreatives.com/wiki/florida/orlando-wifi for example.
If you can make it up to Happy Hour on the 15th, we'd love to have you. Our normal gatherings average 15-20 members, but they have been over 40 on really good months as well.
There is lots more to say... but where to begin? I would also point you at the podcast - 18 episodes and all of them are great. I am going to re-work how the podcast is displayed, but for now, the wiki page has the most comprehensive list:

Also feel free to email webmaster AT floridacreatives.com if you have any more questions. I would love to chat.

cool. i'll check those links out.
this site has lots to see. i googled colab and co-op and such and i know a little bit more about what you guys are doing. i came across the new york city artists group collaborative projects, which i guess started it all. very interesting.
Florida Creatives is not based directly on any other group. Likemind as an event is, and BarCamp, and a couple of the other serial things we do, but Florida Creatives is its own thing.
I highly recommend checking out some of the podcasts and checking out the personal websites of some of our members to dig a little deeper.
